Early Life and Career
Jimmy Carter was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia. He grew up in a farming community and attended local schools.
Naval Career
After graduating from high school, Carter attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He served in the Navy for seven years, including during World War II.
Political Career
After leaving the Navy, Carter returned to Georgia and entered politics. He served in the Georgia State Senate from 1963 to 1971 and was elected Governor of Georgia in 1971.
